Itinerary
Day 1 - En. Route
Our members are welcomed at the airport for their flight(s)
to Israel.
Day 2 - Tel Aviv
You are met, assisted and transferred to bustling Tel
Aviv for dinner and overnight. En route visit ancient Jaffa (Joppa)
from where Jonah sailed and where Peter had his housetop experience.
Day 3 - Tel Aviv/Tiberias
Visit Caesarea, capital of the Roman Procurators of Judea;
view the aqueduct, theatre and Crusaders' moat. On to Megiddo where
excavations have unearthed 20 layers of civilization, most likely
the site of Armageddon; Muhraka, where Elijah defeated the priests
of Ba'al and Haifa, ascending Mount Carmel for the panoramic view
of the Mediterranean Sea. Drive to the Crusader port of Acre (Akko);
see the Knights' Templar complex; enjoy the beauty of this fishing
port. Travel through the Galilean hills; descend below sea level
to Tiberias, nestled on the Sea of Galilee. Overnight -Tiberias.
Day 4 - Tiberias
View "The Galilee Experience," a multimedia show of the
over 3000-year history of the region. Board a boat to travel on
the Sea of Galilee; see a fishing vessel from the time of Jesus.
On to Capernaum, Tabgha and the Mount of Beatitudes. Ascend the
Golan Heights to Dan, northernmost limit of Jesus' travels and Banias
(ancient Caesarea Philippi) at the foot of Mount Hermon, where Jesus
won Peter's ringing profession of faith, to find a source of the
Jordan River. Visit the Baptismal Site built where the Jordan River
flows from the lake. Overnight - Tiberias.
Day 5 - Tiberias/Jerusalem
Visit Cana, where Jesus blessed the marriage feast, Nazareth,
boyhood home of Jesus and Sepphoris dating from the 1st century.
Drive through the Jezreel Valley to Bet Shean; view the beautiful
mosaics, remains of a Roman theatre and the ongoing excavations.
Continue through the Rift (Jordan) Valley to Jericho, the oldest
known city in the Western world. From the "tel," view Elisha's Fountain
and Qarantal, the Mount of Temptation. Ascend to Jerusalem via the
Judean Wilderness past the lunar-like landscapes of Wadi Qelt. Overnight
- Jerusalem.
Day 6 - Jerusalem
Visit Bethlehem, birthplace of King David and Jesus;
see the Church of the Nativity, the Manger, Crusaders' Cloister
and the Grotto of St. Jerome. Tour the Model City which explains
"the look" of Jerusalem during Jesus' time. On to Mount Zion; see
the Upper Room, Tomb of King David and the Church of Peter in Gallicantu
(Caiaphas' House). At the Shrine of the Book, see the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Visit Yad Vashem, memorial to the Holocaust. Overnight - Jerusalem.
Day 7 - Jerusalem
Descend below sea level to the Dead Sea, the lowest spot
on Earth. Ascend by cable car to Masada, Herod the Great's fortress/palace
built in the midst of the desert; view the archeological remains.
Learn the story of Jewish zealots who committed suicide rather than
becoming slaves. On to Kibbutz Ein Gedi to sample the unique buoyancy
of the therapeutic Dead Sea waters and/or climb into the majestic
nature preserve. View Qumran, the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls
were found. After dinner, tour of "illuminated" Jerusalem, followed
by a folklore performance. Overnight - Jerusalem.
Day 8 - Jerusalem
Ascend the Mount of Olives; see the Church of Pater Noster,
Domninus Flevit and the Garden of Gethsemane. Enter the Old City
via the Zion Gate to visit the restored Jewish Quarter. Walk along
the excavated Cardo, the main street of Roman Jerusalem. View the
remains of Nehemiah's Walls; descend to the Temple Mount; see the
Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock where Abraham was to sacrifice
Isaac. Walk through centuries of history in the Hasmonean Tunnel.
On to the Crusader Church of St. Anne, the Pool of Bethesda, Pilate's
Judgment Hall, the Lithostrotos, the Arch of Ecce Homo; follow the
Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. End this very
rewarding day at the Garden Tomb. Overnight - Jerusalem.
Day 9 - Jerusalem
Day at leisure, or choose from a variety of tours, customized
just for your special interests.
Day 10 - En Route
Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport for return
flight(s). |
